They say everything in history is cyclical, and things that go out of style just come back as cool and retro in about fifty to a hundred years. Whether or not that’s really the case, we can’t tell, but what is undeniably retro is IGT’s Bitten, a 5x3, 20 paylines game with a multiplier Wild and free spins with increasing multiplier on top of that.
The only downside? Much like the name implies, if you’re hoping to take advantage of these bonuses, you’re going to have a strong dislike for sunlight and a pair of extra holes on your neck, because that pretty girl you’ve been courting has a pair of extra large fangs with your name on them.
The user interface and the visuals both seem to follow this retro style which makes Bitten look like it’s been made in the 1980s, which would certainly be a feat. All the reels are animated, and some of the icons also have some interesting action – such as the Scatter coffin, which will pan across the gorgeous vampire that’s luring you into her trap.
There’s lots of cool looking symbols. You have the somewhat boring numbers and letters like 10, J, Q, K and A, but on top of those you have a glass of wine.. or at least we hope that’s wine. A gothic candle-holder and a silver-ruby medallion with a heart motif. The vampire appears in both the Wild and Scatter. The Wild has the slot’s logo overlaid on top of the vampire, which will lunge out to bite you when part of a winning combination, while the Scatter portrays her laying down in a coffin.
You need three or more Scatters to activate the free spins. The amount you win depends on how many Scatters you’ve triggered the bonus with, and your choice of coffin. You pick between three different ones at feature start, and you can win between 5 to 20 free spins from these locked down chests. Scatters also pay you a lump sum, so you’ll likely want to win all five if possible to give yourself the best chance to get the maximum amount of free spins and a 200x initial win on top of that. Alongside all of this, free spins also have a multiplier that ticks up every free spin. It’s possible to re-trigger the feature, up to a maximum of 50 free spins.
The features are great in play, even though they don’t do much different from the expected standard. What will attract players isn’t so much the interesting gameplay as the prospect of potentially getting 50 free spins with a rising multiplier on every extra spin that will turn even the smallest wins into something amazing.
So what’s left is a medium to high volatility offering from IGT with an RTP of 95.02%. The retro look is awesome, the gameplay is decent, and the winning potential is worthy diving into a vampire’s lair to get. Just don’t come complaining to us if your neck hurts tomorrow morning.
