If there was a theme that centred around boarding and breaking into a train, we’d quite like it! Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, there’s not much of a coherent theme at all beyond the train itself. Most of the symbols are drawn in such a way to fit the aesthetic Pragmatic Play are going for. Bar icons look like distance markers, then you have the bell, flags for guiding the train and a conductor’s cap. Even the Wild and Scatter fit the theme: a golden locomotive and a train ticket, respectively. The only symbol that doesn’t fit are the lucky sevens, which are the top paying icon.

You play Gold Train on a 3x3 board with only three paylines, which pay left to right only. There’s only one special feature available in this slot. It’s very lucrative, but doesn’t offer much in terms of player interaction or entertainment. Each spin has a chance to further enhance the bonus, which we like. It builds the special feature over time, so you feel awesome when you finally trigger it. But the bonus itself is little more than a train that passes by and dumps cash prizes into your wallet. Again, fantastic news if you’re looking for pure wins. But in terms of gameplay, it doesn’t offer much interaction with the game.

And while we have complaints elsewhere, Pragmatic Play continue to deliver a fantastic user interface. It looks stylish, while managing to remain functional at the same time. Bonus Rounds

Collect three or more Scatters to activate the Progressive Bonus special feature. During it, a train will pass by, with at least ten carriages full of cash prizes present! You can make more carriages appear by collecting golden upgrade tickets on the third reel before triggering the bonus. Each ticket will add between four to ten carriages, and there’s no limit on how many extra carriages can be added. It’s also possible to find upgrade tickets within carriages instead of cash prizes. If that happens, the extra carriages will be applied to this special feature, instead of the next one.

Summary

Despite its shortcomings, we did enjoy the time we spent on Gold Train. Its sole special feature does get a bit boring quickly, but we can’t argue with how lucrative it is! What this slot sorely lacks is some more gameplay. Another bonus to keep us entertained would be wonderful. Otherwise, you’re left with dull graphics and a small 3x3 reel with three paylines. Not exactly a recipe for success.
